COMMON QUESTIONS

  • Every studio portrait session begins with a video consultation. This is where we align on vision, mood, styling, shot priorities, and how you plan to use the images. We’ll talk inspiration, refine ideas, and make sure the session feels intentional before we ever step into the studio.

Your studio portrait session then takes place at a carefully chosen Pittsburgh-area studio. Sessions are relaxed, guided, and collaborative.

After your session, I curate a proof gallery with base edits. From there, you’ll select your favorite images for final retouching. Finished images are delivered in a polished online gallery at full resolution, with alternate sizing available upon request.

  • Studio portrait sessions are booked hourly and tailored to your needs. Sessions can range from 30 minutes to multiple hours depending on how much variety you want.

A one-hour session is ideal for headshots and creative portraits and allows time for outfit changes, multiple looks, and a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.

If you’re unsure how much time you need, I’ll guide you during the consultation.

  • Each hour of studio portrait coverage includes 10 fully retouched images.

After your session, you’ll receive a proof gallery with base edits. Gallery size reflects session length and goals, but typically includes around 50 images per hour of shooting. From that gallery, you’ll select your favorites for final retouching.

Final images are delivered at full resolution via an online gallery and can also be provided in web-optimized sizes if needed.

  • I work out of a variety of Pittsburgh-area photography studios depending on the needs of the session.

I frequently book Opya Studios in the Southside, which offers a large, neutral space that works beautifully for creative studio portraiture. I also maintain a list of recommended studios that lean more lifestyle or editorial and may be closer to you.

Studio location is selected intentionally based on your vision, aesthetic, and comfort. Studio rental fees are separate and vary by location.

  • Yes. Fully. Always.

You are not expected to know how to pose. I provide clear, supportive guidance throughout the session, using movement, environmental cues, and natural body language to create portraits that feel relaxed and confident.

If we’re going for something more editorial or fashion-forward, we can push into more stylized posing. Either way, you’ll never feel stiff or unsure of what to do.

  • Yes. I’m happy to share a curated list of trusted Pittsburgh-based hair and makeup artists I regularly recommend.

You’re welcome to contact them directly, or I can loop them in after our consultation. Professional hair and makeup is optional, but it’s a great way to elevate the experience and step into your session feeling fully taken care of.

  • Styling is part of the process. During our consultation, we’ll talk through outfit ideas that photograph well, align with your personality, and support how you plan to use your images.

If you’re bringing multiple looks, I’ll help you prioritize and plan for variety without overwhelm.
